HOW TO WIN >

You’re fresh out of school and money can be tight. So making your first big boy wardrobe investments can be costly, especially when you’re left to your own devices. We decided to take our wardrobe experts out into the city streets and scout out ready and willing candidates who welcomed some sartorial advice. Over the next few months, we’ll be tackling some common wardrobing missteps and correcting them... or at the very least, give some TipTop pointers that can help you dress for success.

Charan is 6’1” and evenly proportioned – lucky guy! So the first thing we did was “right size” him in a DKNY slim suit. To keep his vertical line from not looking too gangly, we made sure to give him a slightly nipped waist.

Check out below for some other minor (and some major) adjustments we made!

BEFORE

BUTTON DOWN COLLAR SHIRT
shouldn’t be worn with a tie.

EXTRA-WIDE TIE
doesn’t match his narrow lapels.

THE SUIT IS TOO BIG
creates a boxy and unflattering fit.

HEMMED TOO SHORT
making him appear shorter and showing too much ankle.

AFTER

SPREAD COLLAR SHIRT
for an updated modern look.

NARROWER TIE
more proportioned to match his lapels.

EMBELLISHMENTS
adding a fun pocket square and tie clip to polish up the look.

THE RIGHT FITTING SUIT
better suits his body shape.

THE CUFFS
peek out from under the suit. Rule of thumb is that a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of cuff should show.

TRIMMER LEGS
A narrower bottom with a small break, so the hem skims the tops of his shoes, just enough for his patterned socks to peek out.
